A bit about me... Hi! Thanks for visiting my site. My name is Helen Fountain, I qualified as a personal trainer in 2003, further to this a Science degree and certified nutrition coach qualifications were added in 2013. Lots has changed in the industry over the last 18 years and I believe that a different approach is necessary in order to help people achieve their health, wellbeing and fitness goals. I am 100% confident that I can help you achieve yours.
My philosophy...I am not here to make a living out of you, that's your job! I'm here to assist YOU make the necessary changes to be FITTER, STRONGER, HEALTHIER and HAPPIER.
I take your fitness goals seriously. I understand that making lifestyle changes can be challenging. My aim is to help you overcome these challenges and reach your goals. I analyse your body type, BMI, and metabolism, to create your personalised fitness plan.
As a registered associate nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition, I can help you with a tailored nutrition strategy that will enhance the results of your training programme, improve your health, reduce the risks of disease and illness, increase energy levels and improve body composition. We can establish your resting metabolic rate and estimate your total daily energy expenditure to find out your calorie intake goals.
I am all to aware that going to the gym is not everyones idea of fun, which is why I have developed training programmes that can take place wherever you want to be. So much can be achieved with a few basic kit essentials. During your consultation meeting we will discuss the options. I can offer complete flexibility as well as a private studio or fully equipped gym. Personally, I don't think you can beat the wonderful outdoors.

The National Academy of Sports Medicine designed the OPT model as a systematic, periodised training programme. It's aim to concurrently improve functional abilities such as core stabilisation, flexibility, balance, strength, power and cardiorespiratory endurance. By using this structured, scientifically based programme design you can be confident that the foundations of your training programmes have been tried and tested and is an Internationally recognised approach to achieving the very best results.
Correct posture is essential to produce safe and effective movement. Your posture will be assessed in order to ensure that you achieve correct joint alignment and muscle balance.
Your static postural assessment may highlight problem areas that could alter muscular recruitment patterns. This will form the foundation of your exercise programme to ensure optimal progression.
In order for your programme to be set at the appropriate start level an assessment will be carried out on your cardiopulmonary (heart & lungs) system. Tests are designed from complete beginner level.
Heart rate monitoring and blood pressure checks will be used alongside simple but effective step, walk or run tests to establish your estimated maximal heart rate and indicate your safe start zone for training.
Here we can establish your estimated body mass index (BMI). Your measurements and hip to waist ratio are excellent ways to track progression and a preferred method to weight monitoring.
Especially useful if you are looking to improve athletic performance. These assessments will test stability, agility, muscular endurance and overall strength.
The importance and effectiveness of goal setting is often overlooked. Each of your training sessions will be designed around getting you closer to your goals. Aimless sessions which seem pointless and boring are the main reason so many people drop out of training programmes and gym memberships.
During your consultation and programme design stage I will help you establish short, medium and long term goals that will keep you moving forward with your training.
We will use proven strategies to ensure that your goals are SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Relevant and Timely.
The human brain has an impressive ability to exaggerate the possibility of failure and the feeling of fear. This can be overcome by focussing on one achievement at a time, no matter how small it may seem. Every goal setting plan is entirely unique to each person, my aim is to work with you to find out what works best taking into account all work / life commitments.
Keeping motivated really is key in order to keep reaching your goals, my training programmes are designed to do just this , no plugging away doing the same thing week after week, no getting bored with the same old surroundings time after time. Your programme will keep you interested, energised, inspired and coming back for more. Furthermore, there are a variety of Apps that are now available to assist in setting daily/weekly challenges, perfect for motivation and a fun way to involve family, friends and colleagues into being more active.
